Assists people with developmental disabilities and their families to find and access essential public and private services to meet their unique needs. Serves developmentally disabled individuals with diagnosis and evaluation, financial assistance, information and referral service, genetic counseling, client advocacy and community education. No charge for services rendered during diagnosis and assessment for eligibility. Parents of children under 18 who are in continuous 24-hours out-of-home placement are required to pay a portion of the cost, based on ability to pay. In addition, parents with children ages 3 - 17 years may have a share of cost for respite, day care, or camping services based on the Family Participation Plan. Eligibility: Any developmentally disabled individual who has a significant handicap as a result of mental retardation, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism, or other conditions similar to mental retardation, whose disabling condition originated prior to the age of 18; any parent who may be at high risk of giving birth to a developmentally disabled infant (genetic services) and high risk infants under age three.
