LOS ANGELES – The City of Los Angeles Department of Aging today introduced a breakthrough solution for the elderly, people with disabilities, caregivers and service providers called Network of Care (www.lacitynetworkofcare.org), a community-based Web site that provides comprehensive long-term care services, information and education that is significant to the thousands of
seniors and persons with disabilities who live in our city and county.
Laura Trejo, General Manager of the City of Los Angeles Department of Aging, expressed her excitement, "We have been waiting for this moment. I am excited about the launch of the
Web site. As our senior population continues to grow this tool will be a valuable resource and will increase access and knowledge of existing services.”
“On behalf of the Council on Aging and myself, we think that the Network of Care is a great opportunity for everyone involved in the aging network to ‘be connected’,” said Ed Woods,
President of the City of Los Angeles Council on Aging. “This tool will enable more people to communicate to each other about their interests and concerns with regards to long-term care.”
The Network of Care provides a comprehensive Service Directory of Multipurpose SeniorCenters, Adult Day Health Centers, dining centers, and other social and health service
providers in the City of Los Angeles, putting people in touch with the right services at the right time. Network of Care also provides easy-to-search libraries and vital information about specific disorders, pending legislation and advocacy, as well as daily news articles from around the world concerning aging and disabilities.
Service providers can share challenges and ideas, as well as create powerful new mechanisms to better serve seniors, by embracing Network of Care’s communication tools such as message boards and community calendars. Service providers can even build their own free Web sites in the “For Providers” section.
